The problems and consequences of urbanization, as well as the environmental effects of urbanization on a legal, economic, and sociopolitical level, are the subject of the Department of Urbanization and Environmental Issues. This field focuses primarily on the history of cities, theories of urbanization, local governments, policies of local governments, urban planning and issues, urban law, housing and slums, environmental policies, environmental ideologies and social movements, global environmental issues, and urbanization in Turkey. Students will be able to examine the multidimensional relationship between urban, environment, and politics through the courses offered by the department, allowing them to examine the dynamic relationship between social, economic, and environmental factors on a local, national, and global scale.
